Ingredients
1⁄4 cup
butter or margarine 1⁄4 cup
flour 2 cup
milk 1⁄2 teaspoon
salt 1⁄8 teaspoon
Pepper 1⁄2 cup
cheese (Shredded cheddar or grated parmesan (optional))Instructions
In a medium saucepan, melt butter. Add flour; stir until smooth. Gradually add milk, stirring until smooth. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Add salt and pepper. Add cheese if desired. If sauce is too thick, add more milk. Makes roughly 2 cups of sauce.Note: Use this sauce to cream vegetables such as spinach, apraragus, peas or onions. Cook vegetables until tender and add white sauce. Serve hot.
